Sustainability at WISAG

The climate crisis is one of the greatest global challenges of our time.
That is why we put sustainability at the heart of everything we do.
Together, we can make the impossible possible.

Our journey towards a more sustainable future

As one of Germany's leading service companies, we recognise the impact our activities have on the environment. We take responsibility and set ourselves ambitious goals: for us, sustainability is not a passing trend, but a long-term commitment.

By strengthening our sustainability efforts, we want to help make our planet a place where current and future generations can thrive. We can only meet the challenges ahead by working together. With more than 50,000 people across the WISAG Group, we know that every step towards a more sustainable future counts.

For us, sustainability means acting in an environmentally responsible and fair way to help ensure a good quality of life on our planet in the future.

CEO of the WISAG Group

Sustainability has many facets

Our sustainability strategy takes a holistic approach, giving equal consideration to environmental limits, social justice and economic stability.

We are making our services more resource-efficient, taking steps to avoid and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and fostering a respectful and supportive culture. WISAG set a target of operating with net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions in 2024. Under that plan, emissions that could not be avoided or reduced would be offset through certified climate protection projects.

Driving the energy transition

We are phasing out fossil fuels and expanding the use of renewable energy. Our goal is to achieve maximum electricity self-sufficiency. Moving away from fossil fuels is essential to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and limiting the effects of the climate crisis. We are therefore expanding our use of renewable energy, with the goal of generating enough electricity to meet as much of our own demand as possible.

We set a target of meeting 100% of the electricity demand at our own sites with green electricity generated by us in 2024. To do this, we are combining solar and wind power.

For us, green electricity from renewable sources is the key to maximising our energy independence and reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.

Managing Director of WISAG Energieversorgungs GmbH & Co. KG

Generating our own solar power

Installing solar panels on our properties in Germany is another step towards a more sustainable future. At our Frankfurt-Zeilsheim site, 200 solar panels cover around 550 m² of roof space and have a combined capacity of 82 kilowatt-peak (kWp). They can generate around 75,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green electricity each year - equivalent to the branch's current electricity demand.

Electrifying our vehicle fleet

We introduced our first electric cars ten years ago. Our aim is to make our entire fleet electric by 2030, except for specialist vehicles for which no suitable alternatives are available. Since March 2023, employees in our top two management levels have used electric vehicles. Vehicles for the next management levels have either already been replaced or are on order. At the same time, we are continuing to expand charging infrastructure at our branches in Germany.

By gradually electrifying our vehicle fleet, we are reducing our greenhouse gas emissions in line with our Vision 2030 and making an important contribution to the transition to electric mobility.

Making our services more sustainable

The property sector has considerable potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and resource use. That is why we are making our services across Facility, Industry and Aviation more sustainable. Our work ranges from improving the energy efficiency of buildings and using environmentally friendly cleaning products to reducing food waste. In aviation, our Ready for Green initiative includes switching to electric ground-handling equipment to help cut emissions from aircraft handling. For our customers, we are more than a service provider. Drawing on our extensive experience, we also act as an adviser and a source of practical solutions.

Taking social responsibility

Around 50,000 people across the WISAG Group are at the heart of our family-owned company. Their knowledge and individual skills help us make the impossible possible for our customers, every day and around the clock. We support them with an attractive working environment, career prospects and opportunities for further training. We also want to give back to society by supporting a range of social projects. In February 2022, WISAG rented a hotel for a year to accommodate Ukrainian women and children fleeing Russia's invasion. Working with the German Red Cross (DRK) in Frankfurt, and supported by our employees, volunteers and generous donors, we were able to provide the refugees with a safe place to stay for twelve months.

Our KiWIS Foundation

Since 2015, the KiWIS Foundation – WISAG's initiative to support children – has worked to improve educational opportunities for children and young people. Its activities include supporting nurseries, providing tutoring and learning holidays, and organising excursions. We believe a good education lays the foundation for a successful future.
